Are you using affiliate programs to make money online? If so, is it working for you? Many people start their Internet businesses using affiliate programs but fail to make money. In many cases, they fail to make money because they will jump from one program if they don’t make any sales. If they did some statistical research, they might have a better chance of making money online.

On average, 100 targeted visits to a sales page will result in 1 sale. For this reason, it is important to track the number of visitors that you are sending to a merchant’s sales page. If you are sending 4 people a day, don’t be discouraged if you haven’t made a sale in 3 weeks. At that point, you only sent 84 people to the site. Work harder and make more of an effort to refer more people.

That doesn’t mean if you’ve sent 99 visitors, the next visit has to result in a sale. It is more of a long-term average. I once sent 350 people to an affiliate site and didn’t get 1 sale. Just as I was about to give up on the program, I made 4 sales in 1 week and made very good money. If I eliminated the program after 325 visits, I would have missed the opportunity to make some very good money with that program.

If you’ve sent 400-500 visitors to a site and haven’t generated any sales, it is probably time to choose another affiliate program. At that point, you have to face the fact that your merchant’s site does not convert well. Look for another program and start all over again. If you find a program that converts in excess of 1 percent, stay with it and if you can, add another affiliate program, into your business.

By eliminating losing programs, keeping your money makers, and adding new programs, you can build a very profitable affiliate business. But, you can only do this if you track your results so that you know which programs are the most successful.
