Goodness, girl, that’s identity theft waiting to happen. PLEASE don’t go poking around the web entering your social anywhere! If you believe you have unclaimed money sitting somewhere, then you need to go through your personal records to get some contact information of the place you believe owes you money. Documentation supporting that sure doesn’t hurt.
But there are absolutely NO valid websites (or businesses, for that matter) that would have unclaimed money belonging to you that you haven’t already come in contact with in your lifetime. If you suspect a deceased relative may have left you some money, then you need to make contact with the person handling the estate.
Good luck!
1. You should never provide your SS# to a website unless you are 100% sure of the validity of the website and you are sure there is no malicious software on your computer.
2. Most states do have unclaimed fund websites, usually under the Office of State Comptroller, but even these websites do not ask for your ss# until you actually try to claim unclaimed funds.
Use the link to the OSC in New York state as an example.
